ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

MADE IN BRASIL

Made in Brasil is the very first exhibition at Casa Daros dedicated exclusively to Brazilian art.

It is conceived as a homage to the magnificent artistic environment of Brazil, an environment in which we feel very fortunate to be able to participate. This flourishing artistic landscape provides the necessary basis for a further analysis of other Latin American artistic phenomenon presented at Casa Daros. With our comprehensive collection of works by Brazilian artists, it seems perfectly fitting to devote an exhibition exclusively to Brazilian art in the country of its origin.

This exhibition also ties in with individual presentations of those Brazilian artists in the Daros Latinamerica Collection—such as Lenora de Barros, Iole de Freitas, Rosângela Rennó, and Eduardo Berliner—who have already exhibited at Casa Daros.

In Made in Brasil, the assembled works of Waltercio Caldas, José Damasceno, Antonio Dias, Milton Machado, Cildo Meireles, Vik Muniz, Ernesto Neto, and Miguel Rio Branco make up a varied profile. The individual artistic qualities are much too distinctive to provide a homogeneous overall picture; instead, they represent the enormous scope of Brazilian artistic output in recent years, which here becomes apparent in the superb individual series of works.

We will present more Brazilian artists from the Daros Latinamerica Collection—including Mario Cravo Neto, Nelson Leirner, Cinthia Marcelle, Valeska Soares, Hélio Oiticica, Mira Schendel, and Lygia Clark—in forthcoming thematic exhibitions.

CASA DAROS

Opened in March of 2013, Casa Daros is a space for art, education and communication dedicated to contemporary Latin American art. The institution occupies a 1866 neoclassical building, in Rio de Janeiro’s Botafogo neighborhood, and is connected to the Daros Latinamerica Collection, based in Zurich, Switzerland.
In addition to exhibitions, Casa Daros organizes a wide range of activities, such as workshops, multipliers training, meetings with artists, and films, performances and presentations, among others, in addition to housing a library specialized in contemporary Latin American art, a store, and Mira! café and restaurant.

DAROS LATINAMERICA

The Daros Latinamerica Collection, based in Zurich, is one of the most comprehensive collections of contemporary art from Latin America. Currently, it comprises over 1.200 works by 120 artists, pieces created from the 1960s to the present day.
Its collection activities are guided not by the striving for encyclopedic completeness but rather by the persuasive expressive power and significance of works of art, whether within the oeuvre of a particular artist, or against the backdrop of art history. The works acquired for the collection are selected for their legibility on the greatest variety of levels and their ability to address more profound complexes of aesthetic, social and human issues.
